13th - Harbour Bridge


The new footbridge that connects the north & south piers of Torquay Harbour.

The bridge is nice. What are the two towers for? I am guessing they raise or lower the bridge in some way.

As far as I gather, the towers contain some of the the workings for raising the bridge. They also help support the large breakwater underneath, which ensures the inner harbour remains at mid tide level throughout the day.
