4th - D Day Ramps

Another view of the D Day embarkation ramps which were used by the American army in 1945. They have been refurbished of late and the Stars & Stripes now flies permanently alongside them in recognition of the role they had in WWII.

The boat in the background is the largest vessel with a regular berth in Torquay harbour. It belongs to the Palace Hotel and is available for hire if anyone wants to squander a huge wad of cash.

This is actually a shop first & foremost, with a funfair in the grounds. I am not sure whether they built the funfair to keep the kids occupied or was it built to drain even more money from people's pockets?

9th - Embarkation Ramps


The Bay Princess leaving for a tour of the bay. In the background you can see Torquay's latest piece of modern art, a white ring circling the harbours edge. You can also see the grade II listed embarkation ramps, which were used during World War II by American troops heading for the D Day Normandy landings.

I really like this building as it differs so much from the usual style of a working mans club. I'm not sure what style of architecture this would be classed as, but the arched windows & doorway really feature strongly.
